Maintaining, rebuilding, and improving our roads and bridges are life lines for growing our economy and tourism. We have too long ignored our crumbling roads and highways. When Republicans held the majorities in the House and Senate, they haphazardly reduced funding and services. We are now forced into a situation of critical needs. This July, a modest increase, the first in 20 plus years, will be added to the gasoline tax making it possible to start the work on our infrastructure. These funds will go to the completion of I-93, address the red listed bridges, crumbling roads, and give assistance to towns to repair their roads and bridges. It will take many years to repair the damage done by neglect so that trucks and school busses will no longer have to use additional fuel and time to detour around unsafe areas.
